The Connecticut for Lieberman Party

Hehehe… regardless of the URL, I don’t think that this is the official website of The Connecticut for Lieberman Party. It’s far too honest to be the official website:

When it became clear that Lieberman was no longer a real Democrat, he needed a way to hold onto his precious seat in the Senate. He scoured the state to identify the 25 supporters needed to form a political party so that he could still run, even after he loses the Democratic Primary on August 8th. That inspired the formation of Connecticut for Lieberman.

If you hate the democratic process, and agree that people who vote in primaries are just troublemaking radicals, then please support Connecticut for Lieberman. Together we’ll continue fighting to make life more difficult for Connecticut families.

Connecticut for Lieberman - it’s just not a party without Joe Lieberman!

Funny, but in a sad way. ‘cuz while the website is being satirical, there’s also a healthy dose of truth in there, too. Lieberman is basically saying “fuck democracy, fuck the voters, fuck the Democratic party, the only thing that matters is me!”

California’s new solar energy policy

Big news out of California last week, as Arnold Schwarzenegger signed California’s new solar power policy into law:

The bill, which cleared the state Senate last week, calls for the installation of 1 million rooftop solar panels on homes, businesses, farms, schools and public buildings by 2018.

The solar systems would generate 3,000 megawatts of power and reduce emissions of greenhouse gases by 3 million tons, equivalent to taking 1 million cars off the state’s highways and making California the third biggest solar producer after Japan and Germany.

It is hard to over-state how big this is for the environment. Solar power production will skyrocket, reducing the need for generating electricity from fossil fuels. When done on a small scale, this would have a small impact. When done on a scale as large as California, the impact will be enormous.

Open letter to Senator Joe Lieberman

It’s been a month for writing letters to elected officials, apparently. This time around, I got spurred into action by General Wesley Clarks’ WesPAC to write to Joe Lieberman:

Dear Senator Lieberman:

Please don’t take this personally, but I believe that you will be doing the wrong thing if you choose to run for senate as an independent. On Tuesday, Democratic Connecticut voters made their wish clear: they want Ned Lamont to represent them in the U.S. Senate. Please sir, do the right thing and through your support behind Ned Lamont.

As you well know, politics is a rough career. You’ve tasted victory and defeat. But through it all, you’ve stood behind the Democratic party. And it is now time for you to do the same thing, by endorsing Ned Lamont. As much as it might sting to admit it, Ned Lamont is clearly the winner and deserves to be the Democratic nominee. Your support will ensure that your senate seat stays with the Democratic party. And isn’t that the most important thing?

Sincerely,
Michael R Fierro

I don’t think that this will have any more effect than my letter to Ted Harvey, of course. Lieberman seems to be dedicated to running for the seat that he truly believes he deserves. But maybe, if enough of us write to him, someone on his staff will suggest that Lieberman listen to the voice of the people.

If you haven’t written to Lieberman yet, be sure to do so today!

Open letter to Ted Harvey

After the disgusting behavior during the “debate” about illegal immigration during the special session here in Colorado, I was inspired to write the following letter to my local Representative, Ted Harvey:

Mr. Harvey,

As a resident in your district, I am shocked and embarrassed at your statements about illegal immigration. Your statement about Mexican gangas was bad enough. And your defense that you were just repeating something out of a newspaper article is not really a defense. Repeating a racist statement that someone else made doesn’t make it less racist. I would like to know what that article said, actually. But I digress.

The statement that specifically made me write this letter is the following: “This session has to do with protecting the citizens of Colorado from having to subsidize illegal immigrants no matter where they’re from. By throwing out those words and accusations, they’re shutting down a debate on a serious public safety concern.” This is an amazing distortion of what’s happening. Colorado citizens aren’t “subsidizing illegal immigrants” because most illegal immigrants don’t use public services. Why would they, when this puts them at risk of being discovered and deported? This phrase that you use is a red herring, meant to distract us from the real goals of your immigration stance.

Granted, I have no idea why you are so anti-immigrant. If you truly wanted to reduce the number of illegal immigrants coming into this country, then you would back bills that punish businesses for hiring undocumented workers. People come to this nation for one reason: jobs. If business stop hiring undocumented workers, then the illegal immigration issue would be resolved. No jobs = no undocumented workers.

But for some reason, you don’t want to do this. Could it be that you don’t want to lose your “Guardian of Small Business” accolades? Instead, you seem to advocate punishing those who came here in search of a job, to what end? Are you planning on putting 11 million people in prison? Deporting 11 million people? What would this do to our economy? And more to the point, what would keep more people coming in to fill the jobs that those who are being deported are leaving empty?

As a constituent, I ask that you abandon this extremist approach to illegal immigration and join a course of action that can actually make positive changes, instead of villifying a group of people.

Harvey is a really vile toad of a Representative. He prides himself on being a complete neandrathal regarding reproductive rights and women’s privacy. He also seems to have at least racist tendencies. I think he truly believes that Mexicans are all unlawful punks who can’t wait to get to America to join street gangs and terrorist cells. That he was voted into office is scary; that he was voted into office by my neighbors is even scarier.
