MoveOn.org, a progressive website, sponsored the Bush in 30 Seconds contest. The contest solicited user-created anti-Bush commercials; the winning commercial will be played throughout the week of January 18-24 to coincide with the next State of the Union address.
The winning commercial is simply amazing. Salon describes it as: “Over a minor-key acoustic guitar tune, Fisher’s ‘Child’s Pay’ spot shows a series of stoic, worn-looking American children laboring at low-wage adult jobs — a boy washes dishes, a girl in a baggy pink maid’s uniform cleans a hallway, another works in a factory. It ends with white words on a black screen: ‘Guess who’s going to pay off President Bush’s $1 trillion deficit?’”
Those wacky Democrats! This time around, Howard Dean is fighting back, accusing General Clark of being a Republican. Dean’s best line: “‘I do not think somebody ought to run in the Democratic primary and then make the general election the Republican primary between two Republicans.’”
Apparently the General has voted for Republicans in the past (including Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan) and has been attending Republican fund raisers in the distant past.
Of course, Dick Gephardt’s group had to get in a shot: “‘We’re not going to fix the jobs issue in America by having one candidate with the wrong record on jobs going after another candidate with the wrong record on jobs,’ said Gephardt campaign manager Steve Murphy.”
